| Before the people of Israel ever crossed the Jordan, an enemy army arrived determined to wipe them out. So, ?Moses said to Joshua, ?Choose some of our men and go out to fight? I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.?? (Exodus 17:9 NIV) As Moses? hands stretched heavenward, Joshua?s troops prevailed in battle. But when Moses? arms grew tired and he dropped them to his side, the tide of the battle shifted before his eyes ? Joshua?s troops were being struck down. So again Moses stretched his arms toward heaven, bringing the matter before the Lord. Immediately the battle?s momentum shifted back to Joshua. It struck Moses that to achieve a victory here on earth, victory must first be won in heaven ? by prayer. He must keep his arms stretched toward heaven in prayer There?s a lesson here for you: if you?re willing to invite God to involve Himself in your daily living, you?ll experience His power in your family, your friendships, your studies and wherever else it?s needed. But the other side of the story is: it?s hard for God to release His power in your life when you put your hands in your pockets and say, ?I can handle this on my own.? If you do that, don?t be surprised if you start noticing the tide of battle shift against you and you?re powerless to do anything about it. Too many people are willing to settle for lives like that ? don?t be one of them! |
