Let’s stop going over the basics… again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature. Hebrews 6:1 NLT
Did you hear about the little fellow who kept falling out of bed? When his mum asked him why, he answered, “I guess I just stayed too close to where I got in.” It’s tempting to stay close to where you get in and not move on – it’s also risky.
Think about a time in the not-too-distant past, say a year ago, and ask yourself these questions: How does my prayer life today compare with then? How about my giving? Has it increased in the amount, the frequency, and the joy? Do I love God’s Word and study it? Am I loyal to His house? Do I love to fellowship with His people? Am I stronger now in the face of temptation than I was then? Have my attitudes changed for the better? Do my loved ones notice the difference?
Listen again, “Let us go on… and become mature” (Hebrews 6:1 NLT). The difference between a child and a mature person is:
(1) A child needs constant attention.
(2) He can’t feed himself.
(3) He has no direction.
(4) He can’t discipline himself.
(5) He fights over petty things.
(6) He’s fearful.
(7) He’s selfish.
(8) He lacks experience.
(9) He struggles with his identity. (10) He constantly needs reassurance.
Take a moment to do a little self-evaluation in these areas. Why? Because you don’t have to do anything to get God’s love, but you have to grow up to get His blessings.
