Did you hear about the woman who was such a terrible housekeeper, that even Good Housekeeping cancelled her subscription? Seriously, most of us don’t struggle to be decent; we struggle to be orderly! We waste valuable time and energy because we’re not better organised. If you want to test yourself in this area today, answer these 10 questions:
(1) How often do you lose things? (2) Are you usually late, or on time? (3) Do you procrastinate? (4) Are your big time-wasters the telephone and television? (5) Do you pay your bills on time? (6) Do you return telephone calls and answer your mail promptly – or at all? (7) Do you have lots of unfinished projects lying around? (8) Can you locate important documents right away (9) Do you have a current will, in a safe place, where you can find it? (10) Can you think things through?
Well, how did you do? If you really want to put order into your life, start by writing down the habits that you need to work on. Don’t announce, “Starting today, everybody ’round here is gonna change!” No, work on yourself first, and only on one or two things at a time. If you try to shoot at too many targets, you won’t hit any and you’ll give up in discouragement.
And don’t forget to pray. After all, it was your best efforts in the past that made you what you are today. So you’ll need God’s help. Reach for it, it’s there (Psalm 91:15).
