Get Up And Start Again!

For though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again. Proverbs 24:16 NIV

Lloyd Ogilvie tells of an acquaintance who was a trapeze artist. Here’s how he describes learning his trade: “It takes repeated falls to convince you that the net will hold you; but once you know that, you forget about falling and concentrate on learning. When that happens… you fall less… you risk more… and you learn more.” What insight!

Don’t be afraid of ‘blowing it.’ You can’t succeed without going through failures. And even if you could, you’d have nothing to share with others that they could relate to.

In 1978, Bernie Marcus, the son of a poor Russian cabinetmaker in Newark, got fired from his job at Handy Dan, a do-it-yourself hardware retailer. But instead of giving up, he teamed up with a friend and they started their own hardware business. Their first store was in Atlanta; it was called The Home Depot. Today he has about 1,000 stores, 175,000 employees, and $30 billion a year in sales. Now I doubt that Bernie Marcus enjoyed getting fired, but look what he’d have missed if he hadn’t.

The Bible is filled with ‘come-back’ stories like… Jonah… Peter… David… Ruth… Mary Magdalene… and others. And they’re there for a reason: to let you know that you can come back too!

In Hannah’s great prayer she said, “Those who stumbled are armed with strength” (1 Samuel 2:4 NIV). Come on, try one more time! By God’s grace, the next time can be the last time – the time when you break through!
