Are “your loins girt about with the truth”? (Ephesians 6:14). A Roman soldier’s girdle was all-important, because his breastplate rested on it, and his sword hung from it. It was the foundation of his entire armour.
Truthfulness! You’ll accomplish nothing worthwhile if your life isn’t based on it, or if you’re lying to yourself, deceiving others and trying to ‘block out’ what God’s saying to you.
Just as a girdle squeezes you, so the truth will make you uncomfortable in dishonest situations. Just as your loins represent your most private areas, so your innermost secrets must be laid bare before God for Him to heal. If you don’t want to reap the consequences, don’t reproduce anything that’s not rooted in truth!
And it’s not just the lies you tell that hurt you; it’s the ones you believe. The enemywill try to sidetrack you into worrying that you’re not good enough to be blessed. He’ll try to make you comfortable in places of disobedience, by saying, “Go ahead, look at that magazine; smoke that joint; have that affair; the government doesn’t need those taxes; take what you want, you deserve it; God’s grace will cover it.”
Whenever such thoughts come, rise up and declare, “I’ve been called to walk in the light and I refuse to walk anywhere else!” Today, put on the girdle of truth!
