We serve… under obedience to the promptings of the Spirit.Romans 7:6 AMP
If you want to walk in God’s blessing and lower your stress levels too, learn to walk in obedience to the “still small voice” of His Spirit that’s within you (1 Kings 19:12). When God speaks to you, it’s not like a hammer pounding on your head; no, it’s more like a gentle prompting inside you. And you can ignore it, disobey it, argue with it, or even try to postpone it until later. But when you do that, you always finish up under stress! When things are not right between God and you, how could it be otherwise? (1 John 3:21-22).
The word obedience is a ‘turn-off’ to most people. Right away, they think of God asking them for a huge sum of money, or sending them to Africa, or telling them to do something they really don’t want to do. Get real! If you won’t listen to God when He tells you to turn off your TV and spend 10 minutes with Him in prayer, why would He tell you to go to Africa?
Obeying God in little things – not big ones – is what lowers your stress levels. For example, when He prompts you not to say another word, and you keep right on talking – that’s when you get into arguments, and your stress level goes through the roof. Ever do that?
God’s Word says, “If you will listen diligently to the voice of the Lord your God… you shall be above only and you shall not be beneath” (Deut 28:1,13 AMP). The difference between being under the situation or on top of it, is usually found in one word – obedience. Do what He tells you, and immediately you’ll begin to lower your stress levels. Try it – it’ll work!
