The joy of the Lord is your strength NEHEMIAH 8:10
Prisons in Bible times were miserable places, especially if you’d just taken a beating before being thrown inside. Amazingly though, ‘Paul and Silas were praying and singing praises to God, while the other prisoners listened’. When you’re down and depressed there is no way your emotions want to praise God, so, like those guys, you have to make a faith-decision to do it anyway. Soon enough your feelings will have to come in line because faith is stronger than emotion. ‘Suddenly a strong earthquake shook the jail to its foundations. The doors opened, and the chains fell from all the prisoners’ (Acts 16:25-26 CEV). Just like the story of the Old Testament king yesterday it was the praise that led to the breakthrough! And it can happen for you too. If you want to shake things up, see doors open and chains break, begin to praise God in the face of all the cack life throws your way! This sort of praise isn’t about sweet ballads to a gently strummed guitar. It’s a screaming electric feedback connection amplified between the airwaves of earth and heaven. It’s a broadband channel through which God blasts in to save your situation from the inside out. So if you’re feeling tired and battered today make a faith-decision based on what Nehemiah says, ‘The joy of the Lord is your strength’ (Nehemiah 8:10).
