…WHEN YOU PRAY…CLOSE YOUR DOOR… MATTHEW 6:6 |
| Jesus said ‘”…when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you”‘ (Matthew 6:6 NAS). Just think about that for a moment. How many times have you sat in church and heard someone pray out this wonderful prayer with such huge words and clever images you’re sat there thinking a) I could never pray like that and b) how can God not answer that prayer, it’s amazing! Well here’s an interesting thought, prayer’s not about genius metaphors or using massive words that rhyme! What God wants from you is a private conversation – just you and Him, where you’re real and honest and so’s He! When people say they don’t know how to pray, what they mean is they don’t really know the ‘in’ phrases. Well guess what, if you say ‘God you’re wickid’, He won’t think your saying He’s evil – He knows your heart and yes, He even knows slang (He even understands tongues remember!). You don’t have to get the words right. God just won’t care – in fact He’ll probably be more upset if you try to talk to Him like He’s the Prime Minister because He wants to be your mate! There’s no heavenly bonus points for using posh words or Christian jargon. You don’t even get extra points for a picture of a waterfall! Prayer is like breathing. It should be natural, part of us. What we need and do to survive. Chat to God on the bus, washing up, even on the loo. He’s always there, always listening and desperate for a conversation! |
