FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS, AS WE ALSO HAVE FORGIVEN OUR DEBTORS MAT 6:12 |
| Chances are that in the last 24 or 48 hours someone has said or done something that has really wound you up. Do you think they owe you an explanation or at least as apology? In fact they should be coming to you on their knees! What are you going to do about it? Hold onto resentment? Tell everyone you know how badly you?ve been treated? Are you dreaming up ways to get even? This line of the Lord?s Prayer reminds us that forgiveness is right at the heart of our faith as Christians. It is totally two-faced to receive eternal forgiveness from God and then refuse to forgive those who have hurt or offended you. We describe them as a ?pain in the neck?. Yeah, whose neck? Not theirs. We?re the ones who suffer! If you?re out to get revenge or get even you?ll probably get neither ? you?ll just get more and more wound up. As much as you think you deserve an apology, they might disagree. You may never get a penny?s worth of justice, and if you do, it might be a total anti-climax anyway. What?s the answer? ?Forgive us our debts as we have forgiven our debtors.? Would you like some peace? Then quit giving people a hard time. Want to enjoy God?s generosity? Then let others enjoy yours. Would you like the assurance that God forgives you? Then you know what to do, right? |
